NDSU Library Frequently Asked Questions

  • HELP!?! I can't access library resources,
    or:
I've logged in, and all I get is a blank page when I go to <insert library resource here>
This is most likely due to a firewall that you or your company has in place. In order to use NDSU Library resources, you must be able to access web content through ports 80 (web), 443 (secure web), and 2048-4000. The reason for this is that we use a proxy server to perform authentication with our many content providers.

If you can adjust your firewall so it allows you to access those ports at least for www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu and dp3.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu, you should be able to access all we have to offer.

Note: there are many different personal security (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc) vendors out there, and it is difficult for us to support products that we have no access to. As such, it might be necessary for you to contact your software vendor if you need help configuring it.
  • Do you proctor exams?
No, we do not have the resources to provide a good proctoring service. However, the counselling Center offers a testing service
  • Do you offer anyone usage of your computers?
We allow limited computer use for academic purposes. You must request access at the reference desk. Note that students have paid for the public computing resources located at the library, and for that reason, students have priority over the general public. All computer usage must comply with NDUS and NDSU computing use policies.
  • Can the general public print?
Yes, provided that you pay for your prints using a pre-purchased card. All printing goes to a GoPrint server, where you use the pre-purchased card to release jobs.
  • Where can I purchase printer/copier cards?
Cards are available at the Circulation Desk in $4,$9, and $19 increments. (You pay an additional $1 when purchasing the cards.) If you are student, faculty or staff, you may go to the Bison Card Center and add Bison Bucks to your Bison Card.
  • I'm trying to edit the wiki - where can I find formatting help!?
We have it online here!
