Location of Materials in the Main Library

The Main Library has three floors: Basement, First, and Second.

BOOKS are on Second Floor and are organized by Library of Congress Number.
PERIODICALS (Magzines and Journals) are in the Basement, and are organized by Dewey Decimal Number.
REFERENCE materials are in the Reference Area on First Floor.
GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS ("Documents") are on Second Floor, after the regular books, and they are organized by SuDocs (Superintendent of Documents) numbers. DOCUMENT MICROFICHE are in the basement in filing cabinets near the maps.
FOLIOS are large books. They can be found on a separate shelf and the end of the Z's, before Government Documents start.
MULTIMEDIA: Videos, tapes, records, etc. are in a separate area on First Floor. Ask at the Reference Desk.

    Main Library Departments

REFERENCE: On First Floor near the Computer Clusters and Printers. Reference Librarians are there to help.
CIRCULATION: On First Floor near the exit. This is the place to check out material from the Library. You MUST have your ID card to check out material.
PERIODICALS: There is a window in the Basement near the Microfische Readers. You may ask for help locating material if you already have the call number. For other questions, please go to the Reference Desk on First Floor.

    Branch Libraries

There are three Branch Libraries at NDSU:

      Chemistry (H.J. Klosterman Chemistry Library)
      Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library
      Pharmacy Library

Consult a campus map (available at the Reference Desk) for the locations of Branch Libraries.

    Summer Library Hours

Always check the library calendar for changes during holidays, breaks, and summer sessions.

    Rules and Procedures

      Circulation Privileges

Books must be returned by the end of the Navy Research Student Group summer program. Periodicals can NOT be checked out. You MUST have your ID card with you to check out library material.

      InterLibrary Loan Privileges

Due to the short time period for this program, InterLibrary Loan is NOT available for Navy Research Student Group participants.

      Computers and Printing

Please know and follow NDSU Computer Policy. Computers are to be used for research. Also, computers on first floor are to be used for library research. Please use the computers on second floor, or at other campus locations, for word processing. Please be moderate when using the printers. Print what you need, but don't be wasteful.

      Other Considerations

Please do NOT reshelve library material. We keep statistics on use of library material to help us know what to order in the future, and what to keep. Please place material that you have used on a nearby table, or if it is reference material, please take it back to first floor so that others can find it.

Please be considerate of others around you in the Libraries.
