NDSU Library WebServices

The NDSU Library now offers Library Web Services. These services allow departments/professors/anyone
to add live library content modules to their website!

We have resources and news module available. The resources module displays the best databases for a particluar subject/major. (ranked by its' subject librarian) As our librarians update the database with the latest resources, your webpage also gets updated! This is a GREAT way of making your departmental page a useful, up-to-date and powerful research tool.

Are any departments already using these modules?

We have already had requests from several departments/professors/staff members for the modules. Below is an example of a module (you can configure it to look however you'd like).

Test the module on your webpage now!
First you need to either be able to save your files as .PHP or .SHTML. Anyone using ITS to host your website must use .SHTML. If you don't know about either, try .SHTML first, then try the .PHP example.

SHTML Users (Use this if your website is being hosted on ITS's server at NDSU)

  • Copy and paste the code in the box below into a test webpage on your website. Make sure you save the webpage as .SHTML

  • Save the page and load the webpage in a browser. If it works, great- if not, try .PHP below.

  PHP Users

  • Make sure you have the latest version of .PHP installed (on your server).
  • Copy and paste the code in the box below into a test webpage on your website

  • Save the page and load the webpage in a browser. If it works, you can use .PHP, if not, try .SHTML above.
  • If both don't work send a comment to WL Gardner through the footer below.

 Or for future reference....

  1. Go to the main page on our website and click on the preferences link.
  2. Look under the section "Add library content to your website!" and click on the type of library content you'd like to add to your website. For example, click on "Resources"
  3. There are 2 easy steps to add live library content to your website. First, decide on a design (or optionally create your own design). Then, scroll down to part II where you select a design (which you can edit in step 1) and then your subject.
