Distance and Continuing Education -- Library
Services
Welcome to North Dakota State University's access
to library services page for Distance and Continuing Education.
Are you taking a distance or continuing education course through
NDSU from off-campus? If so, this page is for you. Faculty teaching off-campus NDSU courses might also find this informaiton useful.
If you are a student taking distance or continuing education courses with your on- campus courses, your library services remain the same as those for other on-campus students.
If you encounter any difficulty using the procedures
and resources outlined on this page, please notify us at
Library Card
If you already have a NDSU picture ID, note the barcode
on the back of the card. You will be asked to provide it to
obtain various library services.
If you do not already have a student ID, you need
a library card. The library will assign you a barcode number
and send you a card. The barcode also allows you circulation
and interlibrary loan privileges.
To apply for barcode, please fill out the Library Card Request Form. As
soon as your application is completed, we will send you an email
confirming your application. Following the confirmation, you
will receive the library card in the mail. Should you be on
campus and wish to check out materials from the Libraries, you must
have the card with you.
Please notify the library at ndsu.library.ill@ndsu.edu
with any name, address, or email changes.
Online Catalog
To find books, videos, government documents, etc.
available at NDSU, use the NDSU online catalog, ODIN.
Other online catalogs available to you include:
When you've identified what you need, contact NDSU
Interlibrary Loan
(ILL).
Electronic Resources
Many of the electronic library services (databases, eJournals,
etc.) available to you require authentication. Use the Library's "My Login"
authentication procedure to grant you access to the electronic journals and
databases licensed for remote access through the library homepage.
Note:
Your Campus Connection ID/password and ODIN ID/password are not the same as those used by other campus systems, including the Libraries, for authentication. This authentication requires that you first set up a login and password through the Information Technology Services Enroll page at: https://secure.ndus.nodak.edu/services/. Be sure to select Library and any other services you might need, such as Blackboard, in the Services section.
This setup may not take effect immediately, so please allow up to 2 days for it to be established.
Databases
NDSU offers many powerful research tools, including:
Databases through the NDSU Libraries are listed by subject and by title. Many are available on and off-campus depending on the conditions of their license agreements.
Review this list to check availability.
Selected Database Services
- Cambridge Scientific Abstracts includes databases that cover biology, communications, criminology, education, health sciences, plant sciences, psychology and more.
- EBSCOhost
Includes two multidisciplinary databases (Academic Search Premier and MasterFILE Premier), communications, nursing, GEOREF, business and other databases.
- FirstSearch
Multidiciplinary databank (WorldCAT, Dissertation Abstracts, etc.)
- ProQuest
Contains a large business research database (ABI/INFORM Global) and newspaper indexes (New York Times and the
Wall Street Journal plus many others).
- WebSPIRS
Agricultural, food science and biological databases.
These electronic databases are indexes to publications
by subject and are usually searched before accessing the electronic
journals discussed under the "Articles" section below. Many
enhance indexing with links to full text articles.
Articles
Once you have identified the items needed, search
the electronic journal page
to determine if the journal you need is available electronically.
NDSU provides over 5,000 journals in electronic format. A
listing of all eJournal is available at www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/ejourn/.
This list includes titles received in electronic format, plus
those pulled from the various databases mentioned above. Licensing
restrictions limit eJournals available to remote users. If
the journal you need is not available electronically, please fill-out
an electronic interlibrary loan form and the article will be sent
to you. Articles from any NDSU collection will be copied for
$1.00 per article plus 20 cents per page. If you have any questions, the Interlibrary Loan
email is: ndsu.library.ill@ndsu.edu.
