How to find Documents in the
NDSU Library:
As a Depository Library, NDSU receives most
of the Department of Interior publications, including publications
of the U. S. Geological Survey. Let's say that you found the following
record in GeoRef, and you want to locate the item in the
NDSU Library:
BK: Acid-neutralizing potential of minerals in intrusive
rocks of the Boulder Batholith in northern Jefferson County, Montana.
BA: Desborough-George-A; Briggs-Paul-H; Mazza-Nilah; Driscoll-Rhonda
SO: Open-File Report - U. S. Geological Survey. 1998.
PB: U. S. Geological Survey. Reston, VA, United States. Pages: 21.
1998.
PY: 1998
RN: OF 98-0364
AN: 98-71025
By looking at the Publisher Field (PB), you see that
the U.S. Geological Survey published the item. Looking in the Source
Field (SO), you see that it is an Open-File Report. In the RN Field,
you see that it is Open File Report number 98-0364 (report number
364 published in 1998).
Looking at the above list of relevant government
documents, you will see that the SuDocs Number for U.S. Geological
Survey Open-File Reports is: (Document I 19.76:). Therefore,
to find this item, you will need to go to the Documents area of
the Main Library on 2nd floor and look for: I 19.76:98-364.
There is one aspect of Government Documents SuDocs
numbers that confuses people. The "period" is NOT treated as a decimal
point. So in this example, find the " I's ", then find the " I 19's
", and then find "76" (NOT ".76"). Then find 98, and then
number 364. If you have trouble, ask a Librarian at the Reference
Desk to help you.
