| What is ILL? |
The Interlibrary Loan Department serves
the faculty, staff and students of NDSU by obtaining materials
(not available in the NDSU libraries) through a systematic search
of regional and national networks. |
| What can be requested? |
Books and journal articles are usually
requested through Interlibrary Loan, although other formats
may be available. The lending library may place restrictions
on such items as rare books, dissertations, audio-visual formats,
reference books and materials in special collections. For materials
owned by the NDSU libraries, but checked out, talk to a staff
member in the Interlibrary Loan Office or place a hold on the
book on PALS by entering:

on patron info and requests
|
| How long does it take? |
The length of time it takes to obtain
materials will vary; however, materials available locally are
usually here within twenty-four hours. North Dakota and Minnesota
locations take about a week and from other states 2-3 weeks. |
| How long can materials be kept? |
Photocopies of journal articles are
yours to keep. Books and other formats are usually given a 2-4
week loan period. Please return material by their due date.
If you need to keep a book longer than the due date, contact
ILL about a possible extension. |
| How much does it cost? |
Materials obtained in the tri-state
region are available at no charge. |
| What to do |
To request materials, fill out one
request form for each item you want. Forms are located on the
Interlibrary Loan counter, and at the Architecture, Pharmacy,
and Chemistry Libraries. Be sure your bibliographic information
is accurate and complete; ask at the Reference Desk for help
in obtaining missing information.
Be sure to include your patron barcode (found
on the back of your identification card) in the space provided
on the request form. The barcode enables the Interlibrary Loan
staff to link your request to the DPD (display patron detail)
feature offered on the PALS online catalog.
Requests can be placed in the basket on the Interlibrary Loan
counter. You will be contacted by postcard when materials arrive
or you can use the DPD feature, type: DPD your barcode number
and your last name. Further instructions are available by each
terminal.
