How do I get an article?
If you have an article citation, these are the steps
to find the article.
Check if NDSU has an electronic subscription.
- Go to the E-JOURNALS
page. (https://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/ejourn/)
- Enter the title of the periodical in the search box and click
on Submit Search.
- If NDSU does not have an electronic subscription, it will
display 0 hits. No matches found for (your periodical
title). This means it is not available electronically.
- If NDSU does have an electronic subscription,
a link will appear at the bottom of the screen. Click on the
journal or magazine title to go directly to the e-resource in
which it is available. Some periodicals may be available from
more than one source. Search the e-resource(s) for your specific
article.
Check if NDSU has the periodical in paper,
microfiche, or microfilm formats.
- Open ODIN.
- Type the name of the periodical in the Search For field.
- Select Title from the Search Type drop down
menu.
- Choose Magazines/Journals from the Limit Search
drop down menu.
- Click the Search button.
- Display the record if NDSU has it by clicking on the #-view
link. If the periodical is not at NDSU, request it from Interlibrary
Loan.
- Click on the link next to the word Availability
to see if the specific issue you need is available in either
paper or microform. The Collection column indicates the
item's location. The call number will be displayed in the Call
Number column.
- If the issue says Periodicals, it will be shelved
in the Current Periodicals section of the main library,
just south of the reference desk on the main floor.
- If the issue is marked In Storage (request via Pull
Service), request it by using the Pull
Service Request Form (http://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/peri/).
Enter the citation information on the form and send the
request. The periodical will be delivered to the Circulation
Desk within 24 hours, and will be held there for three days.
- If the periodical is Microfiche or Microfilm,
it will be in the Library basement.
- If the issue is not owned by NDSU or is listed as Flood
Loss, request it through Interlibrary Loan.
Request the article from
Interlibrary Loan.
- Go to the Interlibrary Loan Periodical
Request page. (www.ndsu.edu/library/ill/ill-periodical.html)
- Fill the electronic form with your article
citation information and send the request. Interlibrary Loan
requests typically take up to seven days to arrive.
- Requests for articles available at the
NDSU Libraries will not be acquired by Interlibrary Loan.
If you need any assistance, please ask at the reference desk
(701-231-8886).
