Agricultural Engineering Periodical & Journal Indexes



• ASAE Technical Library (from the ASAE web site; access for NDSU or members only)
  This site includes both abstracts and full-text of all ASAE technical publications, periodicals, and current standards published since 1999. A comprehensive print index to ASAE technical papers and periodicals published since 1907 is available in the NDSU Reference collection (REFERENCE S671 .A48 and REFERENCE S671.A47).
  
  
• CSA Technology Research Database (access to NDSU only)
  CSA Technology Database is a comprehensive index of worldwide research in all major areas of engineering and technology. Produced by Engineering Information Inc., CSA Engineering Databases indexes more than 2,600 engineering journals, technical reports, and conference proceedings. The coverage of the database includes aeronautical engineering, bioengineering, building and construction, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer and electrical engineering, engineering management, environmental engineering, industrial and manufacturing engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering and transportation.
  
  
• Agricola (available via WebSpirs; access limited to NDSUonly. Also publically available from the National Agricultural Library).
  Agricola indexes over 2000 research journals and publications covering all aspects of agriculture and nutrition. Many (but not all) entries have summaries. This is an especially good index to use for USDA, state experiment station publications, and agricultural research journals published in the United States and Canada. Agricola is produced by the U.S. National Agricultural Library. For a list of journals indexed, go to "List of Journals Indexed in Agricola". • CAB Abstracts (available from WebSpirs, access limited to NDSU only).
  The CAB database, provided by the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International located in United Kingdom, indexes over 8500 research journals from all aspects of agricultural sciences. Coverage is international in scope including journals from around the world published in many languages; all entries have summaries. NDSU has SPIRS access back to 1990; earlier years for most sections of CAB are available in paper editions in the Main Library Reference section (consult PALS for call numbers). • CRIS research in progress databases(public access available)
  The USDA Current Research Information System (CRIS) contains information on ongoing and recentlyco mpleted projects sponsored or conducted primarily within the USDA and state university research system. Some 30,000 project summaries, including latest progress reports and lists of recent publications coming out of the research, are maintained in the file on an ongoing basis.

Getting Articles

• Check if NDSU has electronic access Access to most of our electronic journals is available from on and off campus locations. For off campus access, use the Log In feature on the library home page.
• If there is no electronic access, search WebPals for the journal title. For those you find be sure to check "location details" to see if the issues you need are here and available. Issues dated more recent than July 2000, and microfiche/microfilm are in the Main Library. Issues dated before July 2000 are in storage: use our PULL Service to acquire the item.
• If NDSU does not own the title, or if the issue you need is lost due to the flood, use our InterLibrary Loan service .

 

Patents

• U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent database. Includes searchable bibliographic and full text database of patents back to January 1, 1976. to the most recent weekly issue date (usually each Tuesday). Earlier patents back to 1790 are indexed, but not full text. The text files are directly viewable with a web browser, or an image version, requiring a TIFF G4 plug-in for your browser. For information about image software, go to the U.S. PTO Full-page Images webpage. Drawings are viewable only with the image software.

Regulations and Laws

• Federal Rules and regulations in effect are available in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR): Ref KF70.A3. CFR is updated by the daily Federal Register which details new and proposed rules and regulations(Ref KF70.A2). Both are also electronically available on the web from the GPO Access site
• Federal laws in effect are arranged by subject (i.e. codified) in the U.S. Code (Ref KF62). The U.S. Code is also electronically available from the in the GPO Access site Bills submitted to congress, and laws recently passed are easily accessible from Thomas, a searchable congressional database provided by the Library of Congress.
• North Dakota state laws and regulations are available in the North Dakota Century Code: Ref KFN8630 .A2 1959. The Century Codes is also available electronically on PC's located in the Reference Department of the Main Library: look for the Premise or N.D. Code software, in the "Various Other CD's" icon. (A freely available version is also available from the N.D. State web site, however, no index is available.)
• Also, check basic reference books on subject areas-many have chapters outlining regulations.

 

Standards

ASAE Standards. Standards, engineering practices and data adopted by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. The index to ASAE Standards is publically available on the ASAE Technical Library web site; text of standsrds is available online to ASAE members. Print edition of the standards is available in the NDSU Main Library Reference collection .(REFERENCE 671.A32); earlier editions are located in the stacks.

National Resource for Global Standards serves as a central point to search for industry, government and international standards from many sources. The NSSN database contains over 250,000 references to standards from more than 600 developers worldwide, including ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and ASTM (American Society for Testing of Materials). NDSU does not have access to the text of most standards. They can be purchased, or requested on interlibrary loan.

• Doanes Agricultural Report (Ref HD1769 D6) A compendia of information including custom rates, Nebraska tractor test summaries, and other information.
• Appropriate Technology. A collection of thousands of books and documents relating to technology appropriate to small scale enterprises. Index is available on the web or CD-ROM (from reference PC's: go to the "Various CD Databases" icon; from there click on the Appropriate Technology button.). Text is on microfiche.
• CIGR Handbook of Agricultural Engineering. S675 .C54 edited by CIGR, the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering, published by ASAE. 1999. A 5 volume set including: v. 1. Land and water engineering v. 2. Animal production & aquaculture v. 3. Plant production engineering v. 4. Agro process engineering v. 5. Energy and mass engineering
• Engineering handbooks and manuals: NDSU Library maintains a collection of current handbooks and manuals for all areas of engineering. Check the PALS online catalog, include terms such as "handbook#" or "tables" in your search.
  
  

Company and Product information:

Thomas Register Home Page Directory information on American companies, including product information, online catalogs, fax numbers, etc. Thomas is free, however you must register. You can either set up your own registration, or use that already established by the library: User name, NDSULIB; Password NDSU. Thomas also makes available free to qualifying users CAD CD-Rom's including a searchable database of thousands of parts with drawings ready to insert into CAD drawings.
