Privileges

Extension and Experiment Station personnel have the same circulation privileges as all other NDSU faculty and staff. Books may be checked out for 180 days and may be renewed once; periodicals may be checked out for 5 days, with no renewal allowed. Off-campus Extension and Experiment Station staff should request library materials by using our Interlibrary Loan service.

Many of our online electronic journals are available to off-campus Extension and Experiment station staff; however, some titles are restricted to on-campus access due to license limitations. A listing of our electronic journals is available from our e-journal page at https://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/ejourn. Off campus staff must log in to access e-journals and electronic databases. Log-in instructions are given below.

Bison Card Library Authentication: Your Bison Card is your library card as well; before they are active for library services, the cards need to be authenticated by the Library. Please fill out and send the online Authentication form, OR, call or e-mail Bev Clouse (phone: 231-8915; e-mail: Beverly.Clouse@ndsu.edu) with the following information: 1/ your name, 2/ your EMPL ID number, 3/your bar code number (from the back of your Bison Card), 4/ your office address and phone number, 5/your home address and phone number.

Logging on to NDSU Library electronic services

All on-campus staff and students should have access to most of the library electronic services through the campus network.

Off-campus staff will need to log-in for many services. You must have a ndsu.edu e-mail account and password. Your ndsuext.nodak.edu e-mail will not work. To obtain an ndsu.edu account and/or to set up a password, go to the ITS online Enroll form.

Logging on to library home page is usually the only log-in necessary for off-campus access to all off-campus available databases and electronic journals.

If you have problems with your log-in, or if your log-in does not allow you to access the databases that should be available to off-campus personnel, Kathie Richardson (email: kathie.richardson@ndsu.edu; phone: 701-231-8879), or Mark England (email: mark.england@ndsu.edu; phone: 701-231-8141).

Obtaining library materials

Off-Campus staff:

  • If you need journal articles, check if electronic access is available by searching our our e-journal page (login necessary).
  • If you want a journal that is not electronically available, or if you want a book submit a ILL web request form (You will need your bar code number from the back of your authenticated Bison Card--use the number only, not the preceding letter A, or the letter B at the end of the number).
  • Materials in the NDSU collection will be faxed, e-mailed, or sent via U.S. mail. For journal articles, there will be a charge of $1.00 plus a.10 cent per page; there is no charge for books.
  • Materials not in the NDSU Library will be mailed, faxed or electronically provided to you from another library at no charge. Please return books to the NDSU Interlibrary Loan office--a shipping label will be provided.

On-Campus staff:

  • If you need journal articles, check if electronic access is available by searching our our e-journal page .
  • If we do not have access electronically, check our ODIN online catalog for print holdings. Be sure to check location details for the titles in our collection. Due to the flood during the summer of 2000, many of our journals are in storage or archived on microfilm/microfiche.
  • If location details indicate Annex, use our Pull Service , our twice daily document pick-up and/or photocopy service.
  • If location details indicate microfiche or microfilm, go to the lower level of the Main Library--fiche/film reader-copiers are available.
  • If location details indicate Periodical, go to the south end of the main floor of the Main Library, or branch library if indicated.
  • If a book, find it by call number in the Main Library, or one of the branch library if indicated..
  • If we do not own the item in paper, microform, or electronic format, submit an Interlibrary Loan request.
  • If all of this is too complicated, request document delivery from the InterLibrary Loan office--but, there will be a charge.
