Selected SPIRS Databases (WinSPIRS, WebSPIRS, MacSPIRS)

All SPIRS databases listed below are available for searching in the NDSU Libraries, campus computer clusters, and campus locations with ethernet connections. Some databases are also available for searching off-campus; log-in is required for off-campus use. WebSPIRS is easily accessible using any web browser; WinSPIRS and MacSpirs require appropriate SPIRS software which can be downloaded from the library's SPIRS page.

AGRICOLA Indexes about 2000 U.S. and foreign journals covering all aspects of agriculture. Produced by the National Agricultural Library. Especially good for US publications including USDA, state agricultural experiment stations and extension services.

CAB (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International) CAB produces a "family" of abstracting journals for every branch of agricultural science; indexes journal published around the world. Included are Agricultural Engineering Abstracts, and Irrigation & Drainage Abstracts.

Current Contents Indexes tables of contents of major journals in all disciplines. Abstracts are available for most citations. Current Contents is issued weekly, making it a very good way to keep current on new research.

Food Science and Technology Index (FSTA) Indexes about 1200 foreign and U.S. journals, as well as patents and books. Subjects covered include all areas of food science technology and packaging.

GeoRef Online equivalent to the U.S.Geological Survey index entitled Bibliography and Index to Geology. Excellent resource for geology, GIS, and related areas.

INSPEC (Physics Abstracts, Computer Control Abstracts, Electrical & Electronics Abstracts) INSPEC is probably the major database for physics, electronics, computing, and information technology. Coverage is worldwide including journals, conference proceedings, and some books, reports and dissertatons; most citations include abstracts.

ASAE Technical Library This site includes both abstracts and full-text of all 2001+ ASAE technical publications, periodicals, and current standards. Everyone can search and access the abstracts. Access to the full-text requires an ASAE member password; NDSU Library does not have access to the full text. A comprehensive print index to ASAE technical papers and periodicals is available in the NDSU Reference collection (REFERENCE S671 .A48)

ASCE Civil Engineering Database. Provides electronic information retrieval service to all ASCE publications published since 1973. NDSU faculty, students and staff also have online access to full text for their materials published 1999-present.

CRIS web site The USDA Current Research Information System (CRIS) contains information on ongoing and recently completed projects sponsored or conducted primarily within the USDA and State university research system. Publicly available from the USDA CRIS web site. Some 30,000 project summaries, including latest progress reports and lists of recent publications coming out of the research, are maintained in the file on an ongoing basis. (Similar databases from other countries are available on the web as well; check with the Agricultural Sciences librarian for URLs)

CSA Engineering Databases (Engineering Abstracts) CSA Engineering Databases is a comprehensive index of worldwide research in all major areas of engineering and technology. Indexes more than 2,600 engineering journals, technical reports, and conference proceedings.

NTIS Government Reports Announcements and Index. Produced by the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), this database provides access to results of U.S. government-sponsored research . The database is publically available for searching; reports can be purchased from NTIS, or requested from our Interlibary Loan office.
