Journals and Periodicals Links to databases (some full text) that index journal and periodical literature in the applice engineering sciences.
Extension publications Links to NDSU and national extension publications on the web, and indexes of extension publications.
Check if NDSU has electronic access Go to our e-journal page (if access is available the journal indexes will usually link you to our e-journal page)
If there is no electronic access, search ODIN for the journal title. Issues dated more recent than July 2000, and microfiche/microfilm are in the Main Library. Print issues dated before July 2000 are in storage: use our PULL Service to acquire the item.
If NDSU does not own the title or the particular volume, use our InterLibrary Loan service .
ASABE Standards: online database of approved engineering practices and specifications adopted by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. The print edition of the standards is available in the NDSU Main Library Reference collection .(REFERENCE 671.A32).
- For Help: Consult the Center for Writers in the lower level of the Main Library. (phone 231-7928; e-mail: ndsu.cfw@ndsu.edu.) The CFW will help you develop effective writing stategies, refine writing assignments, and assist with citing references.
- Citing References
The ABEN department requires student papers to be in the ASAE format. A guide to the format is available from the ABEN page at http://www.ageng.ndsu.nodak.edu/Guide.pdf
In the text of your paper, cite references by the name-year system. The form used varies according to the construction of the sentence:
For example: According to Dunn (2002), yada yada yada.....
For example: ...yada yada yada. (Dunn, 2002)At the end of your paper, list all references used in a Works Cited page, arranged alphabetically. Include print journals and books, as well as journals accessed online, web sites and other electronically accessed information. Electronic sources are cited similarly to print sources except additional information (such as URLand date accessed) is added.

Engineering handbooks and manuals: NDSU Library maintains a collection of current handbooks and manuals for all areas of engineering. Check the PALS online catalog, include terms such as "handbook#" or "tables" in your search.
Thomas Register Home Page Directory information on American companies, including product information, online catalogs, fax numbers, etc. Thomas is free, however you must register. You can either set up your own registration, or use that already established by the library: User name, NDSULIB; Password NDSU. Thomas also makes available free to qualifying users CAD CD-Rom's including a searchable database of thousands of parts with drawings ready to insert into CAD drawings.
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent database. Includes searchable bibliographic and full text database of patents back to 1790 to the most recent weekly issue date (usually each Tuesday). The text files are directly viewable with a web browser, or an image version, requiring a TIFF G4 plug-in for your browser. For information about image software, go to the U.S. PTO Full-page Images webpage. Drawings are viewable only with the image software. More information about patents.
