The Fargo Forum Obituary Database http://library.ndsu.edu/db/obituary/ has now been reloaded with 706 new entries from the Daily Argus newspaper for the dates September 17, 1888 to September 23, 1889, and March 9 1891 to August 27, 1891. This now makes the database complete from March 1891 to January 1911 and November 1, 1982 to December 31, 1995. The database now has a total of 77,449 entries. The Cal Olson Photograph Collection was featured in the Sunday, September 25 issue of The Forum. Olson was a long-time photographer with the Forum newspaper. In 2009 the family donated his extensive negative collection to the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies, totaling over 16,000 items. The images document a broad segment of his photographic work for the Forum as well as private work.
The Institute for Regional Studies and University Archives will return to our academic school year hours on August 22nd. Starting on that date our hours of operation will be 8:00 to 4:30 Monday – Friday. We will resume our Wednesday evening hours on August 31st, in which we will be open until 8.

A series of 11 photographs featuring Peggy Lee and her husband Dave Barbour’s visit to Valley City, N.D. in 1950 have been added to the Institute’s Photo Gallery collection on Digital Horizons. The photographs document the reception held by them at the home of Herman Stern after Peggy Lee’s performance at the North Dakota Winter Show. The images were scanned from the original negatives taken by Gifford Herron, Fargo Forum photographer, with a number of them used in a feature story in the Forum of March 8, 1950.
