The Way It Was .. Depression Era Memories of Richard BostwickCourtesy the family of Richard Bostwick in Washington State, the Institute for Regional Studies is pleased to present his vivid reminiscences of life in Fargo during the 1920s and 1930s. |

Hops, Skips, Dances and More (1900s-1960s) Dancing on the Prairie - Throughout the years dances have played an important role in the social life of NDAC/SU students, more so in the years gone by. This exhibit presents a glimpse of some of the social dancing and events at the university over the years. |

“Theatre Passion” (1968-2004) - This exhibit presents a taste of the 100+ productions that Don Larew, long-time NDSU Theatre Professor, has been involved in from his days at the University of Iowa until the early 2000s at NDSU. Unless otherwise noted, the plays were Little Country Theatre productions. |

Land in Her Own Name Land is often known by the names of past owners. In North Dakota, "Emma's Land," Gina's Quarter," and "The Ingeborg Land" are reminders of the the many women who homesteaded across the state. This powerful exhibit tells the story of some of the women who endured the hardships and enjoyed the accomplishments of homesteading in their own name. |

NDAC/SU Buildings (1891-present) - This site is dedicated to the buildings (past and present) of the North Dakota State University (NDSU) campus. Where available, a section titled Architectural Information has been added to each building at the end of the building history page. |

Captured on Glass (1921–1931) - The glass plate negative scans within this exhibit cover life at North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) from 1921 – 1931. During this time period the collegiate enrollment more than quadrupled from 375 to 1,500+. These 150+ scans give you a glimpse of student activities, sports, and the buildings of the campus. |

Kurke & Associates, 1915-1963: A Photographic Exhibit of William F. Kurke and his Fargo Architectural Firm -
Kurke & Associates was the largest architecture firm in Fargo for several years. With it's roots in Fargo dating from 1913, it became one of the most influential architectural firms in Fargo, and perhaps in all of North Dakota. This photographic exhibit is a supplement to the online finding aid and information about the Kurke & Associates Collection. |

World War II Tribute (1939-1946) – The World War II Veterans of North Dakota State University website provides a glimpse into the reminisces, stories, letters, and remembrances the NDSU University Archives has received from NDAC alumni, former students, and faculty who served during the Second World War. |

Nil Desperandum (1925-1927) - was organized in March of 1927 and was opened to all women students of North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC)* who excelled athletically and academically. This scrapbook covers not only Nil Desperandum, but also the Women's Athletic Association, which was organized in 1920. |

Helen M. Barke, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Class of 1925, scrapbook (1922-1925) - The scrapbook begins with sections for athletic records; “friends of mine;” theatres and entertainments; social functions; Helen's notes; theater, dance, sports, programs; clippings, drawings; memorabilia; and a variety of photographs of student life at NDAC. |

Pioneer Camera -
The Fred Hultstrand History in Pictures Collection is one of the most known photograph collections in North Dakota. A combination of collected photographs and his own work, they reflect the rapid changes in the settlement of North Dakota from the 1870s to the 1920s. This exhibit highlights only a small number of the images found in the collection. The entire collection is available on the Library of Congress' American Memory under The Northern Great Plains, 1880-1920. |

North Dakota Agriculture College Prospectus (June 1891) - The first known major promotional piece about the North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) was the Prospectus, published and distributed in June of 1891, when classes were still being held in rented space from Fargo College. |

NDAC/NDSU Aerials (1920s-1990s) - This photograph exhibit presents North Dakota State University from the air from the 1920s to the 1990s. |

Photographers of Fargo, North Dakota
- For a hundred years beginning with Fargo 's photographic studio in 1879 over a hundred photographers have practiced their trade, helping to document the development of Fargo, its people and the region. This site documents those photographers with biographical information, time period and location of their business in Fargo. |

Work Makes Life Sweet, Or Does It? - This October 2003 released e-book, compiled by H. Elaine Lindgren of the NDSU Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology, is based on photographs of people doing "work" between 1900 and 2002. It is designed to encourage all of us in the 21st century to rethink how, why and for whom we do work. |

This combination historical and exhibition web site was developed by Fargo native and N.D.S.U. alum John Caron and donated to the Institute for Regional Studies in 2004. It contains over a thousand images on 600 separate pages devoted to the history and development of Fargo, N.D. |

The Northern Great Plains, 1880-1920 -
The Northern Great Plains exhibit is part of the American Memory digital collection at the Library of Congress. It includes 900 photographs of rural and small town life at the turn of the century, from two Institute for Regional Studies photograph collections -- The Fred Hultstrand History in Pictures Collection and The F.A. Pazandak Photograph Collection. |

Toils induced by Weak Soil: A Photo Essay -
On 1906 the Northern Pacific Railway undertook construction of a railroad grade east of Fargo, N.D. and Moorhead, Minn. Almost immediately, the grade began to sink into the earth under its own weight. Exhibit developed by Donald P. Schwert, Dept. of Geosciences, NDSU and Mark E. This award winning site, developed by Thomas Isern, NDSU professor of history, presents the results of a county-wide survey covering small towns, farms and ranches in the extreme southwest county of Bowman. |
