Search Tips for the Divorce Cases Database
You can search separately by plaintiff & defendant, by attorney, or combining the two into a single search (using the drop-down option list). You can also search by year or range of years. Thus for example, you can search for all cases from the 1890s, or you can search for a specific name but limit it to a specific time period.
The 'any match' option is the default search and is broad in scope. This search will result in finding all incidences of the consecutive letters entered in the query, whether at the beginning, middle or end of a name, as well as the name itself. You can search first or last name separately, or by full name. For full name searching, enter in first name, last name order (i.e. John Smith). When unsure about the spelling of a name you may want to truncate (shorten) to consecutive letters about which you are sure. Entering 'Hans' will produce both Hansen and Hanson, as well as Hanseth and Lytthans.
The results listing is organized in chronological order giving the name of the plaintiff, defendant, their attorneys (if any), the year divorce proceedings began and ended, the case number and any notes. Words in the notes field are included all searches
