TOPICAL ACCESS

Topical or subject access is crucial for researchers to locate and identify images they may desire. The demand for easy access to visual images will no doubt increase, particularly with the advent of the Internet and archives mounting on-line finding aids, databases and images. In order to provide greater ease of access to the rich visual resources of the Institute for Regional Studies, this topical section has been developed.

Broad subject categories have been identified that, hopefully, cover the broad spectrum of possible visual image subject matter. We encourage researchers to browse the subject areas. This section is a work in progress and thus new images continue to be added as subject areas are further developed and additional cataloging is done for individual images. Note that in the catalog record (the Part of line) a link is provided to the collection finding aid if it has been mounted on the web. This allows the researcher to view additional images within that particular collection.
