Description:

Wide view of threshing machine in operation, with smoke coming from steam engine, two racks with grain bundles on either side of threshing machine, water wagon by steam engine and other wagons and racks visible. Workers standing on top of wagons and racks. In foreground is man seated in horse-drawn buggy.

"The man in the buggy, Ernst Benson, owner of the rig, disappeared when the threshing job was about half completed, leaving his equipment, his men unpaid, and the country. Creditors took over. Not till about 1922 did anybody in these parts hear of him--L. Sackett, 4/4/53 , reporting Wm. Geo. Johnson"--Handwritten on back of print by Sackett.
