Katherine
Sorlie was born on May 25, 1900 in Buxton, North Dakota. After graduating
from Buxton High School, she attended the University of North Dakota from
where she graduated in 1921. She then taught high school English
in several North Dakota towns. In 1927 she married E. B. McLeod in
Buxton and they eventually moved Lisbon, North Dakota Mrs. McLeod was a
substitute teacher and her husband was superintendent of schools.
Katherine McLeod died on July 10, 1995.
The
Katherine Sorlie McLeod papers consist, for the most part, of letters written
to Mrs. McLeod. Correspondents include W. G. Fanning, J. Magnus Gronningen,
Katherine McLeod, as well as a number of letters from Mrs. McLeod's family
and friends. Fanning's letters deal with his time in the army during
World War I when he was stationed in Texas. The collection also contains
teacher contracts, report cards and post cards from World War I.
