Country Homemakers'
Club (Cass County, N.D.)
Records, 1913-1966
.8 linear feet (Mss 181)
The
Country Club began around 1912. In 1924, its name was changed to
the Country Homemakers' Club. The club was located in the Amenia
area of Cass County, N.D. It was considered unusual for the time
because it was the only one in Cass County that had two meetings a month-
"one a social and one a business." The Country Homemakers' Club was
active in cooking, sewing, and community projects throughout the 1920s
through the 1950s. It appears to have disbanded sometime in the 1960s.
The
records of the Country Homemakers' Club consist of Meeting Minutes
(1917-1919, 1923-1959); Major Project Record Books (1931-1934, 1946-1949)
projects contained in these books deal with clothing and food; Treasurers'
Record Books (1913-1916, 1920-1930, 1944-1947) includes members' dues and
other financial information; Cass County Council of Homemakers' Clubs contains
the constitution for the Cass County Council of Homemakers' Clubs, as well
as Cass County Council meeting minutes for the years 1952-54; and Subject
Files include some material that was not associated with specific Country
Homemakers' Club events. For instance, the Cass County Rural Festival
Booklet from 1930, is an example of this.
