Thorvald Ostbye

Thorvald Ostbye was born in Norway.  As a boy he worked in his brother's factory learing the wagon and carriage making trade.  In 1881, Mr. Ostbye immigrated to the United States, coming to Fargo.  In 1909, he started a contracting business which became known as T. Ostbye and Son. 

The collection contains miscellaneous family papers, poetry and writings in Norwegian, daughter Harriet Ostbye's diaries (1917-1921) documenting particularly well her social life during high school, various reports and histories of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, and construction projects and financial ledgers of T. Ostbye and Son.
