Military
The Institute has collected and preserved a number of collections of individuals and organizations related to military topics. They range from Korean War propaganda leaflets to letters between father and son during World War I, and the records of organizations for veterans and women auxiliaries. The Institute continues to collect and solicit papers and records of individuals and organizations involved in the nation's wars.

Albert Brauer Psychological Warfare Propaganda Leaflets Collection, 1951-1956(Mss 159)
Bismarck native who was at the bombing of Pearl Harbor and who served in the Korean War and helped the army develop and perfect it pyschological warfare campaign.

John Burnham Papers, 1818-1911 (Mss 155)
Topics covered include army life (1863-1867), service with Henry Hasting Sibley in North Dakota, the 121st United States Colored Troops, army experiences in the Southwest after the war.

Stella Coon Papers, 1917-1919 (Mss 1517)
Scrapbook about her future husband's time at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, Cordon Coon, during World War I, and letters from soldiers stationed in France, including Harry Christensen, Louis C. Pinault, and A.W. Paul; and letter from U.S. Navy appointed her a local recruiter at Buffalo, N.D. where she lived. (No finding aid)

Ira Eddy Family Papers, 1823, 1838-1845. 1846-1851, 1896, 1922, 1937-1942, 1983 (Mss 212)
Local man whose traced his geneology to Captain Miles Standish and the earliest known member of the Eddy family, Reverend William Eddy of Cranbrook, England in the county of Kent.

Charles Farnsworth Papers, 1888-1965 (Mss 616)
Career military man who saw action in conflicts with the Indians, the Spanish-American War, and World War I.

Donald C. Fraser Papers, 1941-1945 (Mss 291)
An impressive collection of World War II letters from Fraser to his wife Irene in Fargo, dating from 1941 to 1945 while he was in training in Montana and California, and with the 188th Field Artillery in Europe.

Grand Army of the Republic, Department of North Dakota, John F. Reynolds Post No. 5 Records, 1884-1923 (Mss 1053)
Post whose members all served in the Civil War.

Horace M. Jones Family Papers, 1907-1931 (Mss 193)
Local man whose son served in World War I and died at home while on leave.

David McCauley Family Papers, 1845-1955 (Mss 329)
Postmaster, express agent and army sutler for Fort Abercrombie.

Katherine (Sorlie) McLeod Papers, 1900-1995 (Mss 246)
North Dakota educator who corresponded with William George Fanning while he was stationed in Texas during World War I.

National Woman's Relief Corp (U.S.), John F. Reynolds Corp No. 1 (Fargo, N.D.) Records, 1885-1965 (Mss 242)
Organization founded 1890 and provided entertainment for troops stationed in North Dakota.

Matthew Steele Papers, 1889-1907, 1920-1952 (Mss 128)
His admiration of the generals who led the South during the Civil War prompted him to pursue a military career.

Julius Sgutt Papers 1894-1953 (Mss 50)
First mayor of Harvey, ND whose son served in World War I and regularly corresponded with his father.
