Donald C. Fraser Papers, 1913-1973
Papers, 1941-1945 (Mss 291)
1 linear ft.

Fargo native Donald Fraser served in the North Dakota National Guard when it was activated. From 1941 to 1943 he was involved in training in Montana and California before heading to England in December 1943. His unit landed at Normandy on D-Day plus six and fought their way through France, Belgium and Germany. During his military carrier he rose from a second lieutenant to major. His mostly typed letters give wonderful insight into the life of a soldier, his daily life, major military operations and the stress war places on families.
