8 linear feet (Mss 146)
The
North Dakota State University Folklore Collection was started in 1978 by
Anthropology Professor, Timothy J. Kolberdanz. He had his Anthropology
212 class collect different types of folklore in order to better understand
its dynamics. The collected folklore represents that of North Dakota
and western Minnesota.
The
collection contains folklore such as babysitting stories and haunted house
stories. The collection has been divided into three sections: Oral
Folklore, Customary Folklore and Material Folk Culture. Within each
section are numerous divisions such as jokes and riddles. Researchers
need to obtain written permission from the Institute or the Anthropology
212 instructor before using the collection. NDSU students do not
need to obtain written permission for access to the collection if they
are using for a university related project.
