Charles
Bangert was born on March 3, 1879 in Sabula, Iowa. He received his
degree in business administration from Westman College and did various
jobs in legal, banking and surveying professions. After coming to
North Dakota, Bangert studied law by correspondence at the University of
North Dakota and passed his bar exams in 1906. He opened his own
law office in Enderlin in 1910 and served as the city attorney for 40 years
as well as attorney for the Soo Railroad for twenty years. Bangert
helped to organize the People's Bank of Enderlin, was active with the published
of the Enderlin Independent and the Ransom County Farmers Press,
served as secretary of the Enderlin Farmers Elevator and state senator
from Ransom County.
The
papers consist of correspondence relating to the Enderlin Independent
and Ransom County Farmers Press newspapers, the Nonpartisan League
in Ransom County, and the 1941 North Dakota State Legislature. As
well, there is material concerning the Moline Plow Company suit, the legal
battles between William Langer and William Lemke over the Land Finance
Company, and many other topics.
