 Jon
Lindgren is a retired Associate Professor of Economics and Chair of the
Economics Department at North Dakota State University. He received
his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1968. Lindgren served
as the mayor of Fargo from 1978 to 1994 and it was during this time that
he became more involved with the construction of a Bridge that would join
12th Avenue North in Fargo with 15th Avenue North in Moorhead, MN.
He opposed the bridge, even before being elected mayou, and strongly disagreed
with the Bridge Company's (the company responsible for the eventual construction
of the bridge) findings and projected income from the toll-bridge.
The
collection contains material Lindgren collected during his terms as mayor
relating to the bridge. Included are newspaper clippings; correspondence;
legal agreements between the cities of Fargo and Moorhead; manuals and
studies relating to the bridge; and information on the Bridge company.
Also included are Lindgren's own estimates on the daily, monthly, and yearly
income from the toll-bridge..
