Fargo, North Dakota
The Institute has collected and preserved several collections relating to Fargo, ND and the surrounding area.  The collections cover such issues as school planning and protecting one's neighborhood against unwanted commercial development.  The collections also cover activities in the area such as the Fargo Diamond Jubilee and the Fargo-Moorhead Centennial.  The Institute continues to collect and still solicit papers and records relating to Fargo, ND.

A community group formed to protest the proposed location of a new high school in Fargo.

Citizens Organized for Residential Protection (CORP) (Mss 260)
CORP was organized in 1968 to oppose the construction of a bridge at 12th Avenue North in Fargo.

Commons Club Records, 1910-1970 (Mss 921)
Mens' club founded at Fargo in 1910 to discuss current events.

Dakota Heartland Health System Auxiliary Records, 1961-2002 (Mss287)
The auxiliary's origins began at former St. John, St. Ansgar and Dakota hospitals in Fargo-Moorhead area. It's mission was to raise funds for the benefit of the hospitals and F-M area.
 

Emerson H. Smith Parent-Teacher Association (Fargo, N.D.) Records, 1922-1957 (Mss 268)
This quite complete set of records documents the activities of the P.T.A. and school, for an elementary school on the south side of Fargo, N.D.

Fargo Citizens for City Management Records, 1953 (Mss 174)
Organization started in 1953 by a small group of citizens concerned about keeping the city manager position in city government.

Fargo Diamond Jubilee Corporation Records, 1949-1950 (Mss 7)
The corporation planned the celebration for Fargo's 75th anniversary in June 1950.

The records document the activities of a established and active service and philantropic organization in the Fargo-Moorhead community.

Fargo-Moorhead Centennial Records, 1972-1975 (Mss 33)
Originally began as a plan to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fargo's incorporation, but expanded to include the city of Moorhead, MN.

Fargo-Moorhead Family YMCA Records, 1882-2005 (Acc. 2799)
Established in Fargo, N.D. in 1882 devoted to serving the needs of area youth, expanding to serve all interested people of the Fargo, N.D. & Moorhead, Minn. communities.

Fargo-Moorhead Heritage and Cultural Bridge Task Force Records, 1975-1979 (Mss 163 & Cassettes 331-337)
Civic group organized to develop plans for a cultural bridge spanning the Red River between Fargo and Moorhead. Although never built, the award winning design was by renown architect Michael Graves.

Fargo-Moorhead Open Forum Records, 1936-1967 (Mss 75)
Public speaker forum that began as an adult education program spanning the years 1930 to 1967 and attracted speakers such as Eleanor Roosevelt.

Rufus Fleming Papers, 1881-1900 (Mss 315)
Ohio native who came to Dakota Territory in 1881 and became a bonanza farmer near Wheatland, ND and active Fargo Mason.

H. Elaine Lindgren Papers, 1961-1986 (Mss 199)
North Dakota State University professor of Sociology who spent twelve years studying a grassroots group that opposed the construction of a bridge to be used for commercial purposes through their residential neighborhood.

Jon Lindgren Papers, 1978-1991 (Mss 203)
North Dakota State University professor and former mayor of Fargo, who became involved with the group protesting the construction of a bridge through their neighborhood.

Jon G. Lindgren Mayoral Records, 1976-1994 (Mss 273)
Lindgren's topical files kept while Fargo's mayor related to a number of local controversial issues.

Jon G. and H. Elaine Lindgren Research Papers, 1991-1995 (Mss 272)
Research papers assembled by two NDSU professors regarding the antiabortion protestors active in Fargo in early 1990s.

North Dakota Childrens Home Finder (Mss 279)
The North Dakota Childrens Home Finder was the official publication of the North Dakota Children's Home Society of Fargo. The society's purpose was to provide a home for orphans and to find homes for them through adoption.

United Commercial Travelers of America. Fargo Council No. 65 (Fargo, N.D.) Records, 1898-1950 (Mss 278)
Local Fargo council of national organization uniting fraternally all commercial travelers and wholesale salesmen.

United Way of Cass-Clay Records, 1912-2001 (Mss 254)
Documents local Fargo-Moorhead organization dedicated to raising local funds to assist the human service programs of 36 member agencies.

W. J. Lane Real Estate Company Records, 1913-1968 (Mss276)
Fargo business that delt in real estate, appraisals, property management and loans. Also includes records of associated business, Harry Arneson, Jr. and Associates.
