The
Wesley College School of Religion was opened fall term of 1921 at the North
Dakota Agricultural College by the Wesley College of Grand Forks.
Faced with problems regarding the separation of church and state since
it used NDAC buildings for its classes, sixteen Fargo businessmen organized
the Fargo School of Religion in 1932. The School was renamed the
North Dakota School of Religion in 1962. In 1973, the School donated
its building and land to the NDSU Development Foundation. After the
Foundation ran the School for two years, it was decided that the Foundation
would maintain a Professor of Religion through a Department of Religion
at NDSU.
The
collection contains bylaws, meeting minutes of board of trustees, correspondence
of the directors, particularly Walter L. Airheart and Walter Stockwell,
and various subject files including alumni lists, material on its building,
newsletter, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and other papers, including
a copy of Don Lee Mickey's thesis.
