Cass County, North Dakota
The Institute has collected and preserved a number of collections relating to Cass County, N.D. and people involved with different aspects of Cass County.  This section contains papers relating to welfare, schools, courts, and the coroner's office.  The Institute continues to solicit and is interested in acquiring papers and records relating to Cass County and individuals involved with the various levels of government in Cass County.

Amenia School District No. 43 (Cass County, N.D.) Records, 1911-1936 (Mss 101)
Documents the administration of a rural school district in Cass County, N.D. from 1911 to 1936.

Cass County (N.D.) Marriage Licenses, 1877-1944 (Mss 253)
Official records of marriage licences issued and recorded in Cass County from 1877 through 1944. A searchable database is available to all names in the records.

Cass County (N.D.). Welfare Board Records, 1933-1935 (Mss 124)
The Welfare Board was formed in 1933 to recommend general policies for administering relief in Cass County.

Cass County (N.D.). Superintendent of Schools, Records, 1905-1963(Mss 89)
The collection contains financial, teacher and general records for the school districts in Cass County.

Noble (Cass County, N.D. : Township) Records, 1876-1929 (Mss 38)
The collection contains treasurers' ledgers and meeting minutes for a rural, agricultural township located in the extreme northeastern corner of Cass County along the Red River.

Fargo (Cass County, N.D. : Township) Records, 1906-1916 (Mss 225)
Records of the smallest township in the state and bordered on the west by North University Drive, on the south by 12th Avenue North, and on the north and east by the Red River.

Dr. Carl E. Elofson, Papers 1933-1941 (Mss 1165)
A Minnesota native who received his medical degree from the University of Kansas and served three terms as Cass County Coroner from 1933 to 1939.

North Dakota. District Court (Cass County) Civil Cases files, 1875-1942 (Acc. 2618)
Some 400 linear feet of individual case files for the civil cases handled in the Cass County District Court. Indexes for plaintiff and defendant available in Research Room (Files located in off-site storage; contact archives staff regarding access.)

North Dakota. District Court (Cass County) Divorce case files, 1878-1942 (Mss 289)
Over 3300 divorce cases were handled in district court in Cass County, N.D. between 1878 and 1942. Because the grounds for divorce were liberal and residency requirement no more than 90 days many people from Eastern states, Canada and even over seas, came to North Dakota to obtain a relatively fast divorce.
