.1 linear feet (Mss 225)
The
petition to organize fractional Township 140N, Range 48W was filed with
eighteen signatures on October 1, 1888. The township is now located
within the City of Fargo. It is only 2200 acres making it the smallest
township in the state. The Township was orginally home to the Cass
County Fairgrounds as well as the Cass County Poor Farm.
The
primary component of the collection is the "Township Record Book."
It records the meeting minutes of the board from 1910 to 1916 and documents
the business conducted including the payments of bills and the election
of township officers. Another section also contains the auditor's
annual reports covering the period from 1912 to 1916. Of particular
interest is the document giving the right-of-way for the "construction
and operation of a surface railway in Fargo Township, North Dakota."
The agreement details conditions and methods of operation.
