Northern
States Power Company
Records, 1882, 1930-1976
.2 linear feet (Mss 205)
 Northern
States Power began as the Fargo Electric Light and Power Company in
1882. In 1889, the Fargo Electric Light and Power Company merged
with the Fargo Incandescent Light Company and became the Fargo Gas and
Electric Company. Over the years the company merged and changed
names several times before becoming known as Northern States Power (NSP).
NSP owned and operated the street cars of Fargo that eventually reached
into Dilworth, Minnesota but abandoned them in 1937. NSP also
started a bus company in 1926, Northern Transit Company, but sold it
in 1937.
The
collection consists of a cookbook containing mimeographed recipes issued
by the Home Service Department. They are not dated, but appear
to span the period dating from 1932 to the 1950s. It is also believed
that the recipes were issued from the headquarters in Minneapolis and
not Fargo. The collection also contains newspaper clippings on
the ground breaking of the new Fargo office and an 1882 receipt to the
Electric Light Company from the Ralph Bros. Dealers in Hardware, Glass,
Tinware and Plumbing.
