Rainer
Schickele served as chairman of the Department of Agricultural Economics
at North Dakota Agricultural College (now North Dakota State University)
from 1947-1954 before resigning to accept a position in the Food and Agricultural Organization
of the United Nations. In 1965, he joined the AgriculturalDevelopment
Council, funded by John D. Rockefeller, III.
Schickele
wrote numerous papers and essays relating to farm practices that range
from the free market to land tenure and planning. Schickele's papers
regarding the development of agriculture in Ceylon best reflect his ideas
on how to develop successful agricultural practices. His articles
illustrate was to best support the farmers through methods of production
and alternative sources of income such as livestock.
