Fred A. Fleischman Papers, 1882-1920
Biography

Fred A. Fleischman was born January 8, 1853 at State Bridge, Oneida County, New York, of German-English parentage.  At the age of 21 he moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, where he lived for five years.  In 1879 he went to Kingsbury County, South Dakota, near Oldham, where he homesteaded in Whitewood Township.  Two years later, in 1881, he returned to Chippewa Falls where he married Mary Alla Towne on February 16.  She was born May 12, 1857.  They returned to his farm, called Woodlawn Farm, where they resided until his retirement, after which his son, Floyd, took over its operation.  Mr. and Mrs. Fleischman had ten children and were charter members of the Baptist Church in Oldham.  Mrs. Fleischman died January 10, 1921, and Mr. Fleischman on November 11, 1929.
