The North Dakota Naturalization Records Index database was compiled by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. In cooperation with the Institute for Regional Studies and the NDSU Libraries, the index is being made available as a searchable database. It is complete for all North Dakota counties and contains over 212,000 name entries. The index includes information regarding name; country of emigration; dates of the "First Papers" (declaration of intention) and "Second Papers" (naturalization); and, the county district court where the proceedings occurred.

The originals records are preserved at the State Historical Society of North Dakota, and all have been microfilmed. For additional information on the history of the naturalization laws and types of records, consult the State Historical Society's Naturalization Records page.

The Institute has microfilm copies of the records for the southeastern North Dakota counties of Barnes, Cass, Griggs, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele, and Traill. (Microfilm JK1822.N9)
