Prairie Quilts

One-hour videotape documentary produced by Prairie Public Television, Fargo, North Dakota, copyright 1999.

ODIN (Online Dakota Information Network)

Prairie Quilts showcases the work of contemporary quilters who express their creative impulses through needle, thread, and fabric. Set against familiar prairie landscapes, since quilts have always expressed a sense of place and love of family, this exceptional production displays the finest work from 1999 quilt exhibits in Fargo, Medora, and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Prairie Quilts includes a tour of the North Dakota Heritage Center's Quilt Stories exhibit with Claudia Berg. Quilt historian Jennie Yearous provides advice on caring for old quilts and demonstrates some of the interesting techniques used to date antique textiles. Commercial quilters Lori Olek and Fran Grandalen talk about how a craft can be turned into a business, and lifelong quilter Wyonna Wilkins shares her thoughts about the evolution of the art of quilting.
