By Tyrase Mack Wald, Quality Printing Service, Bismarck, North Dakota, 1989, 72 pages, softcover.

ODIN (Online Dakota Information Network)

The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection is pleased to provide the book, Portrait of a Church: Sts. Peter & Paul Church. In the Preface, Tyrase Mack Wald writes: "This booklet is an answer to requests for information regarding the history of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Karlsruhe, North Dakota. Sts. Peter and Paul was built in 1925 after finding that the little old church moved down from the hill seemed to be getting too crowded.

One does not write such a history in a vacuum; it is necessary to see it as a part of the whole history of the Germans from Russia population in the vicinity. The research for this project, though not exhaustive, is none-the-less quite extensive."

The author includes these sections in the book: "The Church at Karlsruhe, North Dakota"; "Berthold Von Imhoff" (the artist); "History"; "Prayers" in German language; and the "Saints in Church" with color photographs. Tyrase Wald provides valuable historical black and white photographs as well as an index and a bibliography of sources for her research.
