The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection is pleased to present this important book Eureka: 1887 - 1937. The book is dedicated "To those Noble Pioneers whose courage, determination and foresight permit us to celebrate our Fiftieth Anniversary."

The book is especially important because Eureka was such an important location for the settlement in the Dakota Territory and the Dakotas. There is a detailed history of Eureka including a 1935 plat map.

Eureka's most famous citizen, Charles N. Herreid, Governor of South Dakota from 1901-1903 includes a biography. Other biographical sketches include Valentine Mettler, George J. Hieb, Jacob D. Opp, Johann Knapp, Henry Schnabel, Sr., George G. Neuharth, Adolph Meidinger, Jacob M. Krein, Christian Bossert, Henry Aman, Sr., Johan Job, and many other families.

These immigrant families came to the Eureka in large numbers from the Lutheran Glückstal District villages of South Russia - Bergdorf, Glückstal, Kassel and Neudorf.

The story of "Eureka: The World's Greatest Wheat Market" and " The Sod Shanty" includes many important photographs. Rev. Henry and Rosa Reinhardt writes "Reminiscences."

For a family researcher or historian, the book is one of the most important published covering the pioneer families and the Eureka community of north-central South Dakota.
