The
Glückstal Colonies Research Association is pleased to announce the
publication of Glückstal Colonies Births and Marriages: 1833
- 1900, a book transcribed by GCRA members and compiled by Harold
Ehrman. The book is published by the Germans from Russia Heritage
Collection, NDSU Libraries, Fargo.
The book contains births and marriages found in the microfilm
of the St. Petersburg Consistory for the Glückstal Colonies parishes.
References include the film number, item number, page, and sequence
number, so users can easily access specific documents for ancestors.
The book includes a brief history of the colonies, lists the parishes,
the daughter colonies, and pastors. Selected maps, readings, and
references are included.
Because of the book's large size, and its corresponding cost,
GCRA is unable to send complimentary copies to archives, libraries,
repositories, and societies as was done with the Glückstal Colonies
Marriages. If you or your family would be willing to sponsor
a copy to your favorite archive or organization as a memorial to
your immigrant ancestors, this would be a most appropriate gesture.
Please request a list of recipients gifted previously to help you
with the appropriate inscription for a memorial contribution.
Electronic mail message of 11 March 1998 from Marvin C. Hoffer,
Lewistown, Montana, a native of Java, South Dakota, to Michael M.
Miller, NDSU Libraries, Fargo
"I received the "Glückstal Colonies" publication this week. Excellent!
This is an invaluable reference document to compliment the various
others in my library. Dick Sandmeier (Denver area) and I have been
co-chair village coordinators for Bergdorf, Glückstal, Kassel and
Neudorf for a number of years in that we have heritage from Glückstal
and Neudorf. I am always impressed of the number of persons who
stem from that part of the world, and the many that "are just getting
started" in researching their heritage.
This historical publicational is very well done, and I know only
distantly the massive amount of effort, expertise that was required
by many to produce it. I must find Harold Ehrman's e-mail address
to send our congratulations for "his legacy." My compliments to
the selection of the prints and to Spring Prairie Printing for a
great production.
Thank you Michael for your exceptional efforts to make this rare
document available to the thousands of "Unsere Leut." It literally
paves the way to genealogical success for the thousands of us of
Unsere Leut heritage who have been, and are lost in the genealogical
wilderness with little hope of even knowing which direction to take."
