10-Point Poinsettia Doily – 9½ inch diameter

Materials:

  • 2.2 mm steel crochet hook (Susan Bates size 2)
  • 225 yds white, size 10 cotton crochet thread

Ch = chain
SC = single crochet
YO = yarn over
DC = double crochet
Sl st = slip stitch (YO once)


To start: Ch 16. Sl st in 1st SC to form beginning ring.

Row 1: Ch 3. Work 39 DC in ring. At end of row, sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3 to join.

Row 2: Ch 3. DC in each of next 2 DC. Ch 2. Skip next DC. *DC in each of next 3 DC. Ch 2. Skip next DC.* Repeat from * around, joining at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 3: Ch 3. DC in next DC. Work 2 DC in next DC. Ch 2. Skip next Ch 2 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 4: Ch 3. DC in each of next 3 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 3 Skip next Ch 2 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 5: Ch 3. DC in each of next 4 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 6: Ch 3. DC in each of next 5 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 4. Skip next Ch 3 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 7: Ch 3. DC in each of next 6 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 4. Skip next Ch 4 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 8: Ch 3. DC in each of next 7 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 5. Skip next Ch 4 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 9: Ch 3. DC in each of next 8 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 7. Skip next Ch 5 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 10: Ch 3. DC in each of next 9 DC. DC in back loop of last DC. Ch 3. Work (DC, Ch 3, DC) in 4th chain of next Ch 7 space. Ch 3. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 11: Ch 3. DC in each of next 10 DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. Work 9 DC in next Ch 3 space. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. Repeat pattern around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 12: Sl st into next DC. *Ch 3. DC in each of next 8 DC. Skip next DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. SC in next DC. Work (Ch 2, SC) in each of next 8 DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space and next DC.* Repeat from * around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 13: Sl st into next DC. *Ch 3. DC in each of next 6 DC. Skip next DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. SC in next Ch 2 space. Work (Ch 3, SC) in each of next seven Ch 2 spaces. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space and next DC.* Repeat from * around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 14: Sl st into next DC. *Ch 3. DC in each of next 4 DC. Skip next DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. SC in next Ch 3 space. Work (Ch 4, SC) in each of next six Ch 3 spaces. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space and next DC.* Repeat from * around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 15: Sl st in next DC. *Ch 3. DC in each of next 2 DC. Skip next DC. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space. SC in next Ch 4 space. Work (Ch 5, SC) in each of next five Ch 4 spaces. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space and next DC.* Repeat from * around, except work (DC in next DC) in place of beg Ch 3. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 3.

Row 16: Sl st into next DC. *Ch 6. Skip next DC and next Ch 3 space. SC in next Ch 5 space. Work (Ch 6, SC) in each of next four Ch 5 spaces. Ch 3. Skip next Ch 3 space and next DC.* Repeat from * around, except work (DC in next DC, Ch 6) in place of beg Ch 9. Join at end of row with sl st in 3rd chain of beg Ch 6. Break off thread. Finger-press crochet stitches in poinsettia petals to the right, to offset their natural tendency to spin to the left.

Weave in and trim all loose ends. Hand wash in mild soap and cool water, rinse well. Blot by rolling in a towel, then lay flat on dry towel, smoothing and stretching to original size and shape. Allow to air dry.
