Easter - Mennonite Brethren
Electronic mail message from Edna Boardman, Minot, North Dakota
(eboard@bis.midco.net)
Easter for us Mennonite Brethren, who had only two or three special
days during the year, was an intensely spiritual experience. I recall
one Easter in particular (in my early teens) on which I felt thoroughly
immersed in the joy of the resurrection of Christ. My sister and
I always got new dresses for Easter, we colored eggs on Saturday,
and always found a basket with some of those eggs and candy under
our beds on Easter morning, but the real joy of the day was to sing
the Easter hymns and celebrate that Christ had risen. "Up from
the Grave He Arose." was the top song of the day in our white
frame church near the curve of the road on the North Dakota prairie.
I still like Easter primarily for the Easter Sunday service.
