Ukrainians to visit NDSU and North Dakota in
July
NDSU will host guests from Odessa, Ukraine, during their visit
to North Dakota from July 21-27. The persons include 1) Lilia Belousova,
Deputy Director and Head of the Department of Information, Publication
and External Relations, State Archives of Odessa Region; 2) Dr.
Sergey Yelizarov, Odessa Institute of Agriculture and private researcher;
and 3) Pavel Pratchuk, educator, regional historian, and videographer.
These Ukrainians arrive on July 1 in Los Angeles to being their
visit to the USA.
The Ukrainians will visit NDSU on July 26, including the Department
of Agricultural and Biosciences Engineering, Northern Crops Institute,
Technology Research Park, Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection,
and the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection, NDSU Libraries.
Yelizarov and Belousova will be featured speakers at the American
Historical Society of Germans from Russia Convention, Modesto, CA,
July 5-11; and the Germans from Russia Heritage Society Convention,
Bismarck, July 22-24. They will travel through south central North
Dakota on July 25th to visit historic German-Russian sites including
the Lehr Tabernacle Campgrounds, Strasburg's Sts. Peter & Paul
Church and iron cross cemetery. They will tour a wheat farm and
a buffalo ranch near Streeter, hosted by State Senator Robert and
Susan Erbele, Lehr.
Pratchuk will extend his stay until early August to also visit
Canadian Mennonite Germans sites in Winnipeg, Steinbach and Winkler,
Manitoba with Michael M. Miller, Germans from Russia Bibliographer.
Pratchuk continues to do further videotaping in Ukraine for Germans
from Russia documentary projects. Miller was in Odessa with a tour
group for June 4-9 and met to finalize travel details with the Ukrainians
who visit North Dakota.
Lilia Belousova is a guest of the American Historical Society of
Germans from Russia; Dr. Sergey and Eugenia Yelizarov are guests
of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society; and Pavel Pratchek
is a guest of the NDSU Libraries.
