Edgar J. 'Eddie´ Basgall

Edgar J. "Eddie" Basgall, 72, 1308 Steven Drive, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Loretto to Joseph and Hildegard (VonFeldt) Basgall.

He married Lillian Roth on Sept. 14, 1950, in Pfeifer. He was a professional musician, arranger and composer. He was a member of the Bob Hope Radio Show Orchestra and a featured musician with the Bobby Mills Orchestra in the 1950s. He performed and arranged music for many other bands throughout the Midwest including Tony Hill, the Six Fat Dutchmen and the "Whoopee John" Orchestra.

He later formed and directed the Eddie Basgall Band, the Danceland Band and the Jolly Dutchmen. He promoted tours nationally and abroad and was the owner and operator of Danceland Enterprises. He was a retired music store manager. He was a member of the St.. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Fourth Degree Bishop Cunningham Assembly, all of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Stan, Hays, Neal, Omaha, Neb., and Chad, Rose Hill; a daughter, Christine Basgall, Omaha; a brother, Marvin, Great Bend; two sisters, Vera Bellendir and Arbutus "Boots" Maltby, both of Great Bend; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Don Zimmerman officiating; burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pfeifer.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree rosary at 7:30 p.m., both at Cline´s Mortuary, 1919 E. 22nd. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:.30 p.m. Thursday.
