Anton Lacher was born on August 10, 1882 in Kandel, Russia. His parents were members of German pioneer families which had settled in South Russia. They were Sebastian and Rosalia Schweitzer Lacher, both born in Russia.

Anton married Barbara Geffre in 1902 at Leola, South Dakota. Barbara was born on February 2, 1885 in Russia and died on February 7, 1956 at Mandan, North Dakota.

Anton was a farmer, tax assessor, school teacher, and an interpreter during court sessions, translating from German to English.

Anton and Barbara had 16 children: Theresa, Sebastian, Peter, Paul, George, Katie, Katharina, Anton, Michael, Barbara, Frank, Pius, Lawrence, and Rosalia.

All have died, except the following: Anton lives in Tacoma, Washington; Frank farms near Venturia, North Dakota; Pius farms near Zeeland, North Dakota; Lawrence is custodian at the school in Ashley, North Dakota; and Rosalia lives in Linton, North Dakota.

The Anton Lacher homestead is now owned and farmed by their granddaughter, Barbara and Adam Tschosik.

Anton and Barbara Lacher were staunch members of the St. John’s Catholic Church in rural Zeeland, and, later, St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Zeeland.
