The following explanatory information is from
Kristen Garlock, JSTOR User Services Coordinator, JSTOR (dated
22 Dec 2000):
Dear JSTOR Participant
It is important for libraries to be able to monitor
and assess the use of their licensed electronic resources.
To help you track the use of JSTOR at your institution, we provide
an online form (http://stats.jstor.org/)
which may be used to request a usage statistics report tailored
to your needs. You may submit requests through this web-based
form and immediately view a customized report with statistical
data for your institution. Data is added at the end of
each day so the report data is always up-to-date. Printable
instructions are available as a PDF file at <http//www.jstor.org/about/stats.pdf>.
Since the debut of the JSTOR Usage Statistics
Request Form in 1998, we have been glad to receive feedback
and suggestions for enhancements to the form. We are now
very pleased to announce the most recent revisions, which are
based on feedback from our participating libraries.
New Features
- Summary Report Form
- A new "Summary Report Form" is available
as a link from the original form, which is now called the
"Detailed Report Form." While the Detailed Report
Form is based on the calendar year, the new Summary
Report Form allows you to request a brief summary report
for the time period of your choice, such as fiscal year or
academic year.
- Relative Usage by Discipline
- The "Relative Usage by Discipline" chart
has been updated to include a column for "your site size"
so that you may compare your usage by discipline with the
average of sites in the same JSTOR classification category.
- Journal Addition Dates
- The "Breakdown by Journal Title" chart
now indicates in which month and year each title was added
to the JSTOR collection.
- Print Request Origins
- A new chart, "Print Request Origins"
will be displayed at the beginning of all detailed reports.
This chart indicates from which point in the JSTOR database
(Table of Contents page, citation page, article page, search
results list) the print requests were made at your institution.
This data is available for print requests made since August
2000.
- Site Group Usage Comparison
- The "Site Group Usage Comparison" chart now
includes the usage data for the individual institution with
the highest JSTOR use in your JSTOR classification category.
This data is labeled as the "Top US Large" or "Top US Small."
The individual institution with the highest usage is not named.
We hope that you will find these modifications
helpful. We encourage you to continue to send us your
suggestions for improvements to the Usage Statistics Request
Form!
With warmest regards,
