Tri-College University Film and Video Library

The Tri-College University Film Library is designed to be a resource for faculty instructional activities at NDSU, Concordia College, and Minnesota State University Moorhead.  It includes DVDs and videos requested by faculty from the three campuses.  Resources are purchased with funds contributed by all three libraries.

Where is the library located?
The TCU Film Library is located at Minnesota State University Moorhead in Livingston Lord Library 123 (main floor of the MSUM library in the northeast corner).

Who May Use the Collection?
All films and videos are available without charge to Tri-College University faculty members only.  NDSU undergraduate and graduate students may view materials at the Film Library or use materials off-site after obtaining instructor approval.

Availability and Scheduling
Generally materials circulate on a 1-3 day basis, but longer check-out periods are possible if extended use is necessary.  Cooperation in returning films promptly ensures maximum accessibility.  The TCU Film Library does not provide mailing or rental service.  To reserve a film, contact the Film Library by telephone at 477-2976 or via e-mail at tcufilm@mnstate.edu. Films may also be ordered through our on-line catalog by clicking on “Reserve This Title” located after each film description.

Distribution
Requested films and videos are delivered to the NDSU campus via the shuttle service.  Items may be picked up at the NDSU Interlibrary Loan service window and returned there after use.  Films and videos may also be picked up in person at the MSUM AV Center and then returned to the NDSU Interlibrary Loan after use.

Identifying What You Need
The Tri-College University Film Library on-line catalog is searchable by Subject Headings  and Catalog Browse. A list of recent acquisitions can be found under New Titles. Films may be reserved through this site by clicking on "Reserve This Title" located after each film description.

More detailed search options are available through the MnPALS library catalog. One option allows advanced searches of library and film library materials by keyword and format. The search must be limited to video recordings. If the film is part of the Tri-College University Film Library collection the location will read "Tri-College Univ. Film TRI FILM LIBRARY."

Another option is to search only the film library. Under "Libraries and Collections" select "Film Library" and proceed with a basic search. Please note that it is not possible to check availability or to reserve film library materials through this website. For more information about search options, contact Jane Krajeck at 477-2976 or via e-mail.

Recommending New Titles to the Collection
The Tri-College University Film Library welcomes recommendations for additions to the collection.  Indeed, since acquisitions are based primarily on faculty selection, requests for purchase are necessary to update and enhance the collection.  Faculty members requesting films may do so by going to the TCU Film Library web site and clicking on Purchase Request Form.  The site allows faculty members to place a purchase request, view current requests, and add support to a colleague's requests.  The TCU Film Library purchases items which meet a minimum purchase price of $50.00.  Recommendations for new titles may also be submitted throughout the year to your appropriate NDSU Library subject librarian.  Film Library Committee members meet twice during the year to purchase videos, usually in December and May. Be sure to coordinate all requests with colleagues at MSUM and/or Concordia.  Purchase recommendations supported by faculty from more than one campus are more likely to be purchased.

Other Resources

NDSU Libraries has some separately owned AV materials.  They are all cataloged and may be found by using the online catalog.  Perform any catalog search and limit results to AV format.

The North Dakota State Library is a source for material formerly held by the now defunct ND Film Library.  Identify items by checking the State Library's holdings on ODIN.  The State Library does not book items for particular dates.  Rather items circulate on a first-come-first-serve basis for a period of four weeks.  For additional information, please call the State Library at 701-328-4622 (toll free 800-472-2104).
