Dr. Koob was born in 1941 in Hawarden, Iowa. He received his bachelors in science education from the University of Northern Iowa and his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Kansas. He served as chairman of the chemistry department at NDSU from 1973 to 1977 ands again in 1979 and 1980. He was named Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at NDSU in 1981. In 1985 he was named Vice President for Academic Affairs. He also served for 10 years as the Director of the North Dakota Water Resources Institute. In 1987 he received the Doctor of Service Award from Blue Key. In August of 1990, Dr. Koob resigned and took the position of Senior vice President for Academic Affairs, California Polytechnic Institute, San Luis Obispo.
