A major addition to the College of Pharmacy was the Associate Degree Program in Nursing in 1969. The College offered an associates degree from 1969 until 1987—with the last class graduating in 1988. The associate degree was phased out in 1987 due to an agreement with Concordia College, located in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1986 for the creation of a joint four-year baccalaureate degree program that would utilize the Tri-College University Consortium. Nursing students would be able to take classes at Concordia or NDSU in order to meet the program's requirements. However, nursing students attending North Dakota State University would receive a NDSU degree in nursing through the Tri-College consortium while Concordia nursing students would receive a Concordia degree through the Consortium (NDSU Bulletin, 1970-1972. pp. 103).

In 2005 the NDSU Nursing Department began the procedure to split from the joint program with Concordia. In 2006, the Nursing Department was fully accredited and solely administered through and for NDSU students. The program currently offers the following degrees: Baccalaureate Degree, Masters Degree, and Doctor of Nursing Practice.

The records are separated into five series: Departmental Background with the establishment of the associates degree (1970), clippings (1977), and the Tri-College proposal (1984). The Curriculum series deals with course material for Nursing 100 (1981-1986), Nursing 101 (1982-1987), Nursing 102 (1983-1987), Nursing 196 (1981-1983), Nursing 200 (1981-1988), Nursing 201 (1981-1988), Nursing 202 (1981-1988), and Nursing 203 (1984-1988). Reports and Documents contain annual/biennial reports (1970-1986), self-evaluations/self-studies (1984-2002), and site visit reports (1980-2000). Publications consists of one reunion program for the associate program (1988) and issues of Nursing News Summer 2005, Fall 2006). Recruitment includes various public relations brochures/fact sheets promoting the department (1974, 2001).
