Biography
 

He holds a bachelor's in pharmacy (1950) from NDSU and a master's in hospital pharmacy, also from NDSU. His PhD in pharmacy administration (1972) is from the University of Wisconsin. He joined the pharmacy faculty at NDSU in 1961, after operating community pharmacies in Hatton and Portland, North Dakota.

Dean Haakenson resigned in November of 1980 to return to the classroom as a Professor of Pharmaceutical Administration. In 1987 he spent a year as a Visiting Professor at the University of Montana. In 1988, he was named to a one-year appointment as Visiting Professor, School of Pharmacy, University of Manitoba.
