Administrative History

Civil Engineering is first included as a course of study in the 1907-1908 Catalog. The next year though the Division of Civil Engineering was established. “The urgent need of trained men to take up work of surveys, designs, superintendence, and construction of works for irrigation, drainage, city water supplies, sewerage and pavements of cities, steel and reinforced concrete bridges and buildings, and building and maintenance of railroads, made it imperative that the College offer a course in Civil Engineering.” (1908-1909 Catalog, p. 119) In the 1922-1923 Catalog, the name has changed from Division to Department. As of the 1990-1992 Bulletin, Civil Engineering and Construction became a Division within the College of Engineering and Architecture. The 1994-1996 Bulletin shows Civil Engineering and Construction as a department, no longer a division. As of the 2006-2008 Bulletin, Civil Engineering is once again a stand alone department.
