Administrative History |
| |
While there was an Athletic Association on campus in the late 1890s, athletics did not formalize until 1904-1905. The first mention of the Department of Physical Training and Athletics is found in the 1910-1911 bulletin. There was no curriculum, although credit could be gained if something was worked out with the Director of Athletics and the Registrar. As of the 1919-1920 bulletin some courses were listed along with various athletic activities. From 1939-1946, the Department of Physical Education was listed within the Division of Education. In 1946 it became a Department in the School of Applied Arts and Sciences and by 1960 it was a Division within the School of Arts and Sciences, which became the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Physical Education stayed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences until 1992 when it became part of the new College of Human Development and Education.
