Metabolism and Research Laboratory History

In 1965, campus officials and officials from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) dedicated the Metabolism and Radiation Research Laboratory. The building's construction and dedication marked the continuing cooperation between the USDA and NDSU. The Laboratory was designed to enable further cooperative research between the two entities in animal husbandry, entomology and crop production.

The completed laboratory (a complex of five buildings) was equipped with the most modern instruments for research conducted on plants, animals and insects. Building Number One served as the main laboratory and had an attached greenhouse on the building's south side and a radiation source on the building's north side. Building Number 2 was the Laboratory's service and garage area. Building Number 3 functioned as the facility's animal laboratory. Building Number 4 was reserved for solvent storage. Building Number 5 housed the Entomology Support and Entomology Greenhouses (Metabolism and Radiation Research Laboratory Dedication Program, July 16, 1965).

Today, the Metabolism and Radiation Research Laboratory houses the offices and research facilities of the USDA.
