The explosion occurred during a freshman chemistry laboratory and there were no fatalities, even though some of the people could have been easily killed. Here are their accounts from the Spectrum.
"It was necessary to call out the hook and ladder company after the flames were subdued to rescue Bobby Sanderson from his precarious perch on the peak of the wireless mast across the street where he had been blown by the explosion. The combined strength of three men was necessary to extricate Bob McArthur who had been hurled thru the north door with such violence that his head was driven clean through the heavy brick wall on the opposite side of the hall. Kate Eddy was removed to the city hospital after being found by members of the track team near the east side of the ahleic [sic] field in a dazed and hysterical condition under the illusion that she was Emma Goldman back from Russia."
For the detailed account please see the Spectrum, April 21, 1922, p. 1.
